Moving to Stand Still
Overview
Maryam Rahman, multi-disciplinary artist, is a graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art. She teaches at the National College of Art and practices Lahori Nastaliq calligraphy with Ustad Imdad Ahmed. She manages the estate of Late Artist, Lala Rukh.
“The popular art of calligraphy involves creating heroic images often using noble verses. My interest in this traditional art form is in its ‘anti-hero’ aspect – the silent, rhythmic, feminine, abstract, illegible flourishes – much like the runs in Hindustani Classical Music.
I find strength in claiming the less-established paradigm, the little-known narrative, the ‘anti-hero’.”
