NAZIA AKRAM

Nazia Akram graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Art from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in 2005 where she majored in Painting and minored in Photography. She obtained a Masters in Fine Art from Central St. Martins College of the University of the Arts London in 2011, with a focus on Photography and Video Art. After acquiring her Masters she went on to study documentary film making from London Film Academy in 2012.

She has several exhibitions of paintings and photography in Karachi, Islamabad, Geneva, and London. Her photography has been selected in various coffee table books, including Coke Studio’s Season 6- ‘Sound of the Nation’ and ‘Kam Sukhan’- a book that promoted female photographers in Pakistan. Her most recent video art was displayed at the Alchemy Festival, South Bank Centre in London in May of last year.

Nazia has also simultaneously made several documentaries throughout these years. These include ‘Journey of the Soul,’ based on her discovery of the Sufi tradition of Islam in Pakistan and ‘Sisters in Arms’ an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) production, that emphasized the empowerment of women in the Pakistani Armed forces.

Currently, Nazia is teaching film and photography at universities such as NUST and Iqra, in Islamabad, Pakistan
