MUSSARAT MIRZA
Mussarat Mirza (Pakistan, b. 1946) is the former Head of Fine Arts at the Sindh University at Jamshoro, Mirza is one of Pakistan’s pre-eminent artists. Over the past four decades, her practice has increasingly gravitated towards depicting urban scenes of her native Sukkur. Her works are often mystical meditations on its earthy architecture, shafts of light, and city-scapes, with the rooftop her choice of vantage point. She paints with a palette drained of intensity to create canvases of earthy and mystical power. She was awarded the Asian Shield in Osaka, Japan in 1988.
