MICHELE MARCOUX
Michele Marcoux’s work explores the fragmentary nature of memory and perception. As a migrant to Scotland and an identical twin, ‘home’ and ‘identity’ are not constants but temporary, transient, even transferable. Using drawing, painting, found objects, and images, she explores ‘place’ as a locus of memory and dreaming. Landscape, houses, interiors, the objects found here, form a bricolage of ‘real’ and imagined histories.
In 2019 Michele was selected as one of 6 international artists to participate in the residency Taking Time/Prendendo Tempo, facilitated by The Museum of Loss and Renewal in Collemacchia, Italy. She was accepted onto the residency for the purpose of researching and developing new work for her project Casser Maison.
Michele exhibits widely in Scotland including at the Royal Scottish Academy, TENT Gallery and Summerhall. She also exhibits at Studio 1.1 in London.
Michele studied Fine Art at Bennington College and the University of Pennsylvania in the USA. She completed a Masters Degree in Contemporary Art Practice (with distinction) from Glasgow School of Art in 2016. She is based in Edinburgh at WASPS Studios West Park Place.
