The Geography of Somewhere
29th November 2016 – 5th December 2016
Mina Arham’s practice takes as its departure point the city and its physical makeup. Her work moves beyond the simple documentation of contemporary urban realities and aims to highlight the cognitive dissonance that comes from being placed in her physical context.
In this current body of work the home city of the artist is unpacked and visualised as a chaotic, nameless sprawl. In the midst of same-ness and homogeneity, the artist seeks to find meaning in the small discoveries. Her work is inspired by a specific time and place but the result is universal and affects all urban spaces.
Mina Arham graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from National College of Arts in 2014. Arham has participated in multiple residencies including Habib University -LBF Residency in Karachi and the Gasworks residency in London. She has exhibited in Islamabad, Lahore and London. This is her first solo exhibition in Pakistan.
